La CASA: The Center for Arts, Self-determination, and Activism is honored as the 2026 Non-Profit Real Estate Project of the Year for its transformative role in advancing cultural preservation, community empowerment, and inclusive development in Boston’s historic South End neighborhood.
Developed by Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA), a nationally recognized community development corporation dedicated to affordable housing, education, and economic mobility, La CASA represents decades of community advocacy and a bold vision for preserving cultural identity while creating a new gathering place for generations to come. The $33 million, 26,435-square-foot facility is the first purpose-built center of its kind in New England dedicated to Latino arts, culture, activism, and community engagement.
Designed by Studio ENEE and Annum Architects, La CASA thoughtfully balances contemporary architecture with the historic character of the Villa Victoria neighborhood. The building incorporates traditional materials such as brick and terra cotta while introducing modern elements that create openness, accessibility, and connection. A two-story performance and community space serves as the heart of the building, opening directly to O’Day Playground through a dramatic indoor-outdoor connection that expands opportunities for cultural programming and neighborhood events.
D.F. Pray General Contractors, led by President Scott W. Pray, played a critical role in bringing the vision to reality through a collaborative construction process that emphasized quality, communication, and community involvement. Throughout the project, D.F. Pray supported IBA’s engagement efforts through community tours, milestone celebrations, and partnerships that helped connect residents with the transformation taking place in their neighborhood.
More than a building, La CASA represents the power of community-driven real estate development. It provides a home for arts, education, family services, celebrations, and civic engagement while reinforcing the importance of cultural permanence in a changing urban landscape.
The 2026 Non-Profit Real Estate Project of the Year award recognizes IBA, Studio ENEE and Annum Architects, and D.F. Pray General Contractors for creating a landmark project that demonstrates how thoughtful design, collaboration, and community leadership can shape a more inclusive future.
