D.F. Pray Completes Construction of The Preserve Assisted Living Facility at Briarcliffe Manor in Rhode Island

June 23, 2021

The newest addition supports the transition of the award-winning Briarcliffe campus into a full-service Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)

Johnston, RI — D.F. Pray has partnered with Briarcliffe Manor to construct The Preserve, the newest expansion at the award-winning Briarcliffe campus located on a 30-acre parcel in Johnston, Rhode Island.

The new 49,500 sf assisted living facility features 66 private luxury residences that serve as an active, supportive, independent, and assisted living community. The Preserve brings a new level of care and comfort in an upscale and opulent senior community featuring endless activities, superior cuisine, and abundant amenities in a safe and secure environment.

The campus boasts unmatched amenities including a media and fitness center, salon and barbershop, restaurant-style dining and lounge, library, and a beautifully landscaped outdoor oasis, as well as 84-parking spaces. Residents can enjoy the beautiful indoor and outdoor living spaces coupled with access to conveniences including concierge, personal care services, secure mail and package delivery, and daily social activities, all creating a relaxing lifestyle and environment.

“The success of this project was in significant part due to the personal attention to detail and responsiveness of D.F. Pray including President, Scott Pray and Senior Vice President, Ron Laprise, and indeed the entire team. This project was completed on budget and on time working through the height of the pandemic and associated labor and supply chain disruptions. A shared sense of mission and vision of the importance of the project for the future elderly residents of The Preserve helped us get to the finish line with an extraordinarily high-quality building. I look forward to working with Scott and Ron and the D.F. Pray team on future Briarcliffe projects”.

Akshay K. Talwar, President of Briarcliffe

The design, by NEMD Architects of Providence, RI, blends Briarcliffe’s legacy of care and compassion with a sense of elegance, which can be found in the designer colors, high ceilings, and upscale finishes. The Preserve offers six different floor plans from studio-size units to one-bedroom units in a two-story facility featuring two elevators, wide hallways bookended by plate-glass windows and lined with sturdy handrails. Each unit offers ground-level patios or Juliet balconies, a kitchenette (complete with quartz countertops, smaller-scale refrigerators, and a microwave), European-style bathrooms for safe and easy barrier-free access, wheelchair-width doors for those with mobility challenges, and large windows for unhindered natural light.

“Construction commenced shortly before the height of the pandemic and subsequent shut-down in Rhode Island. Resource chain and planning was a concern, but above all was an obligation to maintain the maximum level of the safety, health, hygiene, and protection for the existing operational healthcare facility directly adjacent to the active construction site. Staffing and manpower were frequently impacted by quarantines and shutdowns. We were in direct contact daily with the Owner, Akshay Talwar, and his team, to assess health and safety challenges and explore creative methods to reduce impacts to budget or schedule, while executing swift decisions to pivot on product or workforce scheduling.”

Ron Laprise, Senior Vice President

Briarcliffe was recently awarded recognition as a Top Senior Living Community by Rhode Island Monthly.
